| Note: |
The high activity in infants decreases during the second year, but remains increased until puberty. A rapid decline to normal adult values then occurs in females, the decline in males is somewhat slower. Periods of accelerated bone growth, particularly in adolescent boys' (13 - 15 yr) can result in transient activity that is five to sevenfold the upper reference limit of adults. Adults over the age of 60 years not infrequently have moderately increased levels secondary to changes in bone and liver metabolism. Raised values are seen during pregnancy (placenta origin) steady increase up to 400U/L by the end of the 3rd trimester. |
